Migrating Your E-Mail from Oregon to Darkwing
NOTE: A mail account on Darkwing can be referred to as username@darkwing.uoregon.edu
OR username@uoregon.edu.
STEP 1. Change your preferred email address in Banner by going to Duckweb (http://duckweb.uoregon.edu ) and logging in (User ID is SSNor new generated ID if you have received it and password is PAC number).
Select Personal Information and the link to update E-mail. If you have never logged in to Duckweb before you will not be able to select darkwing.uoregon.edu or uoregon.edu as your primary email from the list because it won't be on the list yet. Click the button to add a Uoregon address, input your new darkwing address then set it to your preferred address.
STEP 2: Configure your e-mail client to view your new darkwing address. Now, create new folders under your darkwing account with the same names as the folders you were using on your Oregon account. Click on your darkwing account in the left hand window of Outlook Express and select File, Folder, New Folder:

Enter the name of one of your Oregon folders and click OK

Repeat for each folder of your existing Oregon folders. Now open one of your Oregon folders and click on the first message in the preview pane and shift-click on the last message in the preview pane to select all the messages in the folder.

Now click anywhere in the list of highlighted messages and, holding you left mouse button down, drag your mouse over to the new folder with the same name you created under your Darkwing account and release the left mouse button. Outlook Express will move your Oregon messages into the new Darkwing folder. Repeat for each folder you have on Oregon.
STEP 3. Majordomo lists - To determine all of the University majordomo lists to which you belong, address a plain text message to majordomo@lists.uoregon.edu and in the body of the message type:
which
end
(Do not type anything in the subject line). You will receive a message containing
all the lists to which you are subscribed. If you would like to see all majordomo
lists at the University view http://lists.uoregon.edu/listsmd.shtm.
Next, click on the inbox under your Darkwing Account in Outlook Express. Prepare a new message addressed to: majordomo@lists.uoregon.edu. Do not put anything in the Subject box. In the body of the message type subscribe (listname) and press Enter. Repeat for each list to which you wish to subscribe. When you have listed all lists, type end and press Enter. Example:
subscribe (listname)
subscribe (listname)
subscribe (listname)
end
If any lists are closed lists, you will receive a message to resend a message to majordomo with the included authorization number. Copy and paste the authorization message into a new mail message addressed to majordomo@lists.uoregon.edu. Be sure to go to the end of each line of the message and press delete. If the next line down jumps up, then press Enter to replace the carriage return and place the line back in its original position. This is important because if there is any character after the end of any line in the authorization message (including spaces) except a carriage return, majordomo will return an error.
When you receive a message from majordomo confirming your membership or receive
a welcome message from the
list moderator, then click on the Inbox of your Oregon account and send
a request to majordomo to remove your oregon email address from the appropriate
list. Example:
unsubscribe (listname)
end
STEP 4. Third party mailing lists - Most commercial mailing lists will have change of address or removal directions included in the footer of any messages that are sent.
STEP 5. Discussion groups - If you belong to any Yahoo discussion groups
and you have configured your memberships to send posts as email, you will need
to go to the main page for each group and click on the "Edit your membership"
link and change your email there before you can post using your new darkwing
address. If you have selected to receive posts as e-mail, group posts will then
be redirected to your new email address.
STEP 6. Commercial websites - If you conduct business online where your
email address is used for authentication and access to account and payment preferences
such as Ebay, Amazon, Half.com, Paypal,
private ISPs, and download services like Audible, MyMp3, etc, you will need
to update your email preference in your user account preference settings.
STEP 7. Websites with e-mail links - All websites that have links to your email address must be updated. Products like Dreamweaver MX have the ability to update an entire site with the "find and replace" menu option. If you are not the website administrator contact the designated web site editor with your new e-mail address.
STEP 8. It may be best to keep your Oregon e-mail account configured in your mail client for about a month to monitor any incoming messages that are still addressed to your Oregon account. However, to promote the use of your new Darkwing address, Select Tools, Accounts, highlight your Oregon account and click the Properties button. On the General tab, change your reply address to your new Darkwing address.

You may also wish to send an email to all of your correspondents and inform them of your new Darkwing address. When all subscribed mailings appear to be properly arriving in your new Darkwing inbox, Forward your Oregon e-mail to your new Darkwing account.
STEP 9. Remove your Oregon account from Outlook Express. Select Tools, Accounts:

Highlight the account you wish to remove and click Remove.
