Creating a Portal to Display Many Related Records from within a One Record Per Entity Table

This lesson requires Students.fp7 .

1. With the Student file selected as your active file, select View -> Layout Mode.

2. Select the "Schools" Layout from the layout dropdown list above the flip book in the status area.

3. Select the Portal tool then click and drag down and to the right below the last field on the layout to create a portal. Release the mouse button.

4. In the portal setup dialog box, choose the table"Students" from the "Show Related Records From" drop-down list. Check the Sort Portal Records checkbox and doubleclick on the field Last Name and click OK.

5. To view five student records at a time, type 5 in the "Number of Rows" field.

6. To be able to view additional records, check the "Show Vertical Scroll Bar" check box and click "OK". Note: If you want data entry personnel to be able to delete student records while viewing the Schools database, you would check the "Allow deletion of portal records".

7. In the "Add Fields to Portal" dialogue box doubleclick First Name, Last Name, Musical Instrument, and Music Style fields in the left hand windows and click OK.

8. Select View-> Browse Mode to view a list of students attending the school.
