Interface Design - Grouping and Text Effects
This lesson requires Student.fp7.
To expedite layout modification, it is often efficient to group fields and their labels together so they can be moved as a single object. Grouping can also be used to create a drop-shadow effect on Text objects.
1. Select the Contact Info layout. Holding your mouse button down, draw a rectangle around the fields "Address 1", "Address 2", "City", "State", and "Zip". Select Arrange -> Group.
2. Notice that the entire group of fields now has field handles only on the outside corners of the group. Move the fields and observe how they can be dragged as a single group.
3. Click on the text object "Student Information System". Press Ctrl-C. place your cursor above the text object and press Ctrl-V. Select Format -> Text Color and choose a medium gray.
4. Drag the gray text object down and over the original text object, placing it about 1 pixel below and to the right of the original text. Select Arrange -> Send Backward.
5. Holding the Shift key down, click on the original text object. Select Arrange -> Group. You should now be able to drag the original text object and it's "drop shadow" around as a single object.
