WELCOME!

The World Forum for Acoustic Ecology (WFAE), founded in 1993, is an international association of affiliated organizations and individuals, who share a common concern with the state of the world's soundscapes. Our members represent a multi-disciplinary spectrum of individuals engaged in the study of the social, cultural and ecological aspects of the sonic environment.

The WFAE has seven international affiliate organizations with three in Europe, two in North America, and one each in Japan, and Australia. New affiliates are forming in Mexico and Greece. Join today and become a part of the soundscape community.

Learn more about the WFAE:

Read: The free online WFAE Newsletter is a supplement to our print publication, Soundscape: The Journal of Acoustic Ecology. It includes news, events, workshops, and other activities related to the ecology of sound. Back issues are available online. The Journal is available to all paid members and is published once a year.

Converse: We encourage you to participate in on-going discussions through the WFAE sponsored Acoustic-Ecology listserv. It is easy to join and participate with other ear-minded individuals regarding the soundscape environments in which we live.

Join: The World Forum for Acoustic Ecology encourages your participation in the growth and development of regional affiliate groups around the world. Learn more about becoming a member by visiting the membership web page or downloading our WFAE Membership Form (PDF).

World Listening Day - Sunday, July 18, 2010. Celebrate the first World Listening Day. July 18th has been chosen as the date for World Listening Day because it is the birthday of the Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer. Schafer is one of the founders of the Acoustic Ecology movement. For more information about this new dedicated day of listening and how you can create events in your part of the world, visit the World Listening Day web page online.
